CONCLUSION: QZLXD is remarkably advantageous in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris of blood-heat syndrome and improvement of patient's quality of life. The mechanism may be related to decrease in serum VEGF level and action against neogenesis of blood vessels.
CONCLUSION: Serum level of EGF might be an important factor related to the progress of psoriasis.
CONCLUSION: TCM and integrative medicine are effective in treating PA, with lesser side effects.
- Anti-psoriatic effects of indigo naturalis on the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes
CONCLUSIONS: Together, these findings indicate that the anti-psoriatic effects of indigo naturalis are mediated, at least in part, by modulating the proliferation and differentiation of keratinocytes, with indirubin as the major active component.
CONCLUSION: The meridian three-combined therapy is effective and safe for treatment of ordinary psoriasis.
CONCLUSION: The combined herbal medicine therapy is effective in treating psoriasis vulgaris in both acute and silent stages, which may be resulted from its inhibition of the expression of Pso p27.
We reviewed the susceptibility of Propionibacterium acnes to eleven
Kampo formulations and to eight Kampo crude drugs that had been studied
by examining their minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) in 1990 and
1995. P. acnes strains were most sensitive to Oren-gedoku-to (OGT)
among these Kampo formulations. Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) and PhellodendriThe acne-therapeutic effects of Oriental herb extracts were
investigated in terms of antichemotactic effect on polymorphonuclear
leucocytes, antilipogenic actions, antibacterial activity against
Propionibacterium acnes and resistance induction potency in the
bacteria. The ethanol extract (0.01%) of Angelica dahurica markedly
suppressed neutrophil chemotaxis, comparable to the effect ofCONCLUSION: Angelica sinensis, Dang Gui, promotes melanocytic
proliferation, melanin synthesis and tyrosinase activity, which may be
the mechanism for validating its clinical use in the treatment of skin
pigmentation.CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that the combination of
acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have a beneficial effect on
patients with atopic dermatitis and may offer better results than
Chinese herbal medicine alone. In conclusion, the anti-HSV compound from P. vulgaris is a
lignin-polysaccharide complex with potent activity against HSV-1 and
HSV-2. Its mode of action appears to be inhibiting viral binding and
penetration into host cells. Results from this study show that PPV is effective against both the
HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections, and flow cytometry offers a quantitative
and highly reproducible anti-HSV drug-susceptibility assay.CONCLUSION(S): The DNA of STI pathogens was detected in semen from a
high percentage of asymptomatic male infertility patients, and was
associated with poor semen quality. Efforts to diagnose and treat
subclinical genital-tract infections should be intensified. Thus, asymptomatic HSV infection has a negative effect on male fertility.
The following conclusions can be made: mobile spermatozoa of normal
morphology can be infected with HSV; as shown morphologically, samples
of ejaculate from men whose wives had spontaneous abortions contained
intragametic HSV capsides; intragametic HSV infection of spermatozoa
had a negative effect on the course of pregnancy and/or embryon
vitality.CONCLUSION: Spermatogenic cells infected by HCMV and HSV-II may cause
pathologic lesions and affect spermatogenesis. Morphologically, the
infected spermatogenic cells may undergo some pathologic alteration,
such as apoptosis. The rate of HCMV infection is higher among infertile
males with pathologic cells in the semen.CONCLUSION(S): The DNA of herpes viruses is frequently detected in the
semen of asymptomatic fertile and infertile male patients. Further
studies are required to investigate the role of herpes viruses in male
factor infertility.CONCLUSIONS: Assuming that all women under study remained asymptomatic,
these data suggest that subclinical herpesvirus viremia may be an
important cause of peripheral immunostimulation in women with a history
of infertilityThe most common skin manifestations of alcoholism presented in this
review article are urticarial reactions, porphyria cutanea tarda,
flushing, cutaneous stigmata of cirrhosis, psoriasis, pruritus,
seborrheic dermatitis, and rosaceaWe conclude that alcohol intake and smoking appear to be risk factors for infectious eczematoid dermatitis among males.
CONCLUSION: Smoking is associated with the clinical severity of
psoriasis and highlights the importance of smoking cessation in
patients with psoriasis.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the association between different components of
smoking history and the clinical severity of psoriasis. DESIGN: A
hospital-based cross-sectional study. We recommend that clinicians discourage patients with psoriasis from
consuming alcohol, especially during periods of disease exacerbation. We conclude that the increased viral titers observed in
mice experiencing psychological stress are the consequence of a
glucocorticoid-mediated reduction in the numbers of lymphocytes
responsible for resolving the initial infection.Salvia miltiorrhiza is a medicinal herb commonly used in traditional
Chinese medicine for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular
disease. This study investigated the effects of Cardiotonic Pill (CP),
a pharmaceutical preparation of Salvia miltiorrhiza, on cardiac
myocytes and fibroblasts with respect to the viability, proliferation,Psoriasis is highly prevalent and is associated with skin-associated
complaints as well as arthritis, depression and a lower quality of
life. Recently, it has been demonstrated that not only do patients with
psoriasis have an increased prevalence of cardiovascular risk factors,
but an increased risk of myocardial infarction, and for those withCONCLUSION: A changed innervation and modulation of the serotonergic
system are indicated in chronic atopic eczema also during chronic
stress.OBJECTIVE: To identify pathoaetiological neuroimmune mechanisms in
patients with atopic dermatitis (AD) and chronic stress, focusing at
nerve density, sensory neuropeptides, and the serotonergic system. Our experiments support the use of
lemon balm for treating Herpes simplex lesions and encourage clinical
trials on this medicinal plant.CONCLUSION: Topical indigo naturalis (the Chinese herb Qing Dai)
ointment was a novel, safe, and effective therapy for plaque-type
psoriasis.Inhibitory effects of ethanolic extracts from 10 Chinese herbs on
herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) replication were investigated. By a
bioassay-guided fractionation procedure, NN-B-5 was identified from
seeds of N. nucifera. NN-B-5 significantly blocked HSV-1 multiplication
in HeLa cells without apparent cytotoxicity. To elucidate the point inBACKGROUND: Phosphorylase kinase (PhK), also known as adenosine
triphosphate (ATP)-phosphorylase b phosphotransferase, integrates
multiple calcium/calmodulin-dependent signalling pathways, including
those involved in cell migration and cell proliferation, while coupling
these pathways to glycogenolysis and ATP-dependent phosphorylation,This study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of the herose formula
as a treatment for psoriasis patients who have been previously treated
with immunosuppressants. The study was an open one conducted in one
center. Fifteen patients were instructed to take four herose capsules
(450 mg per capsule) three times a day for 10 months. At each visit theCONCLUSION(S): Herpes simplex virus seems to play a significant role in
male infertility, and its early detection by the nested polymerase
chain reaction technique will permit successful antiviral therapy to
increase the possibility for fertility restoration and long-term
protection of the sperm quality. Finally, the detection of herpesRosacea is a chronic disorder characterized by hypersensitivity of the
facial vasculature, presenting with intense flushing eventually leading
to chronic erythema and telangiectasia. Although the precise aetiology
of rosacea is not known, numerous associations with inflammatory
gastrointestinal tract disorders have been reported. Furthermore,The treatment of psoriasis in children is still an intractable problem
and demands a long-term therapy with prolonged efficacy that is free
from serious adverse events. Many modes of therapy are currently in use
but the disease is often resistant to treatment owing to the
unacceptable toxicity that leads to poor compliance. Therefore, toCONCLUSIONS: The TCHM concoction is efficacious in improving quality of
life and reducing topical corticosteroid use in children with
moderate-to-severe AD. The formulation was palatable and well tolerated.- A controlled trial of traditional Chinese medicinal plants in widespread non-exudative atopic eczema
Severe and widespread atopic eczema often fails to respond adequately
to currently available therapies. Following the observation of
substantial benefit in patients receiving oral treatment with daily
decoctions of traditional Chinese medicinal plants, we undertook a
placebo-controlled double-blind trial of a specific prescription The common external ointment, Protopic or Tacrolimus, has a black box warning put on it as being a potential cause of cancer. Please use this product with extreme caution. CHeck out the latest FDA warning here.
Since eicosanoids have been implicated in the pathogenesis of
psoriasis, less potent eicosanoid mediators derived from fish oil might
improve psoriasis. Using a double-blind, randomized, parallel design,
18 patients with stable, plaque psoriasis received capsules of either
fish oil or identical-appearing placebo olive oil for 15 weeks, withConclusion: Therapy with TCM has several advantages. It is
effective and shows excellent safety in most patients with psoriasis.
Remission seems to be long lasting. In addition, treatment with TCM is
less costly for the patient when compared with narrow-band UVB,
psoralen plus UVA (PUVA), retinoids, ciclosporin, alefacept, and other
new biologic agents.
