Ling Zhi with its literal translated name of "spiritual mushroom", has a long history of use throughout Asia. It is highly regarded for its ability to nourish blood, calm the mind, and stop wheezing with asthma patients. There has even been a lot of modern research on the use of Ling Zhi as a potent immune booster for the treatment of cancer. For the treatment of various skin disorders a study was posted in a 1984 edition of the Research Journal of Medicine and Herbology showing oral ingestion of Ling Zhi to be very beneficial. Ling Zhi was 79.1% effective in treating 179 patients with scleroderma, 95% effective in 40 patients with dermatomyositis, 90% effective in 84 patients with lupus erythematosus, and 78.88% effective in 232 patients with alopecia areata.
