Chinese medicine found to be effective and safe for atopic dermatitis
During the annual meeting for the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (AAAAI), in early 2009, a study was released showing Chinese herbal medicine to be effective and safe for atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema). The finding is opening up the possibility of a more integrated approach to the treatment of skin disease, a very welcomed prospect.
The effectiveness of combined Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture in the treatment of atopic dermatitis
CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study suggest that the combination of
acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine have a beneficial effect on
patients with atopic dermatitis and may offer better results than
Chinese herbal medicine alone.
Alcohol and smoking: risk factors for infectious eczematoid dermatitis
We conclude that alcohol intake and smoking appear to be risk factors for infectious eczematoid dermatitis among males.

CONCLUSION: A changed innervation and modulation of the serotonergic
system are indicated in chronic atopic eczema also during chronic
stress.
